Paheli - A Riddle

Paheli - A movie by Amol Palekar.

A tale told differently. This is a folk tale which is told in the style of "Vikram aur Vetaal". A story which is interesting, and a riddle at the end which leaves you thinking, even after Vikram has answered the same.

The movie (rather the story) questions the function of marriage and thus is a bold theme from an Indian point of view. I am pleasantly surprised that no one falsely upholding the beacon of Indian "values" has questioned the way Lacchi chooses love over her marital bonds.

The movie actually talks about love and the need for it as against money and the need for it.

I will not divulge into the plot more because the plot sounds very simplistic until you see the movie. The movie captures the essence of the story very gracefully.

This is one movie which, though short could have been shorter. The story does not have enough in it to actually hold on to you for more than an hour.

I think the movie could have delved more into the likeability of the "bhoot" Shah Rukh. Though he does lot, it still does not look enough for Lachhi to fall in love with him heads over heels.

The main cast has done a good job. The Music is mediocre. The Visuals are breathtaking.

My Final Take - Watch it with no expectations and you will love the movie.

Caution to Shah Rukh die hards. Go to the movie only if you have accepted the King in Swades
